Facial Exercise – Mother Nature's Equalizer
The writing is on the wall, the consensus is in – Lynette does not want Tom to fall prey to facial plastic surgery – citing a case of "wind tunnel blues" – the outcome and condition of an unfortunate facial surgery incident worn by one of her co-workers, Lynette lovingly caresses Tom's wrinkles and age marks as she reminisces how those life etching experiences were earned.Just like a page ripped from a newspaper; Tom, unemployed, wanted back into the job market and as he interviewed for a job, this handsome, well-educated, seasoned executive felt out of his element. The office environment was full of young looking managers and Tom felt old – his confidence left him. His thinking was "surgery" but Lynette artfully steered his thinking away from that because she really loves his face the way it is!
The Scavo's from Desperate Housewives aren't the only ones bravely saying no to procedures like Botox®, Restylane®, Perlane® or face altering surgeries. Celebrities along with men and women around the world are waking up to the fact that these costly, dangerous, temporary, cosmetic procedures do not promote youthfulness. Modalities of surgery, injections, chemical peels, liposuction and electro-stimulation only mask aging sometimes creating an eerie, freakish resemblance to one's former self or an escapee from the Island of Dr. Moreau.
The trend brings to mind the consciousness shift surrounding cigarette smoking. For years people smoked; they smoked on airplanes, in restaurants even on-air newscasters were allowed to indiscriminately light up during newscasts. And then the trend changed, the consciousness was expanded and smoking was verboten. When it became known that inhaling those poisonous gases was slowly killing the nicotine lovers, people changed.
Maybe there is education and enlightenment surrounding substances that plump and paralyze or surgeries that alter the once beautiful and handsome faces.
Injecting toxic, poisonous substances in the name of beauty does not equate to healthiness. Paying for surgical facial enhancements – cutting and suturing delicate healthy skin and tissue – also does not equate to healthy. Going back under the knife for Revision Surgery is scarier still because surgery is dangerous stuff. Side effects, drawbacks and cruel taunts from startled friends are just a few negative aspects of choosing nips and tucks or cosmetic fillers for your face.
The US Food and Drug Administration recorded '900 adverse events' against dermal fillers in 2007; these included allergic reactions, anaphylactic shock, facial palsy, infection and disfigurement. These adverse reactions that result from quick fixes does not mean your money is returned or the procedure redone at the expense of the surgeon or practitioner. There are no guarantees you will like the results and no money will be refunded if you don't. You are on your own because in most cases it is permanent. If there is something wrong, there is no going back.
Mother Nature always wins in the end!
